Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“Will you hurry up Fred?!!” barked Bulldog between gritted
teeth. The rain was softly sprinkling on Bulldog’s face, and he could feel the
ground beneath his back begin to grow soft with mud. His arms were beginning to
tire, having been stretched from his body for the last hour. The ropes around
his ankles were making his feet go numb. As he gazed at the white puffs of lazy
clouds nimbly moving over his head, his eyes shifted focus to the cliff
directly above him. His time was running out.
“Hey, I am chewing as fast as I can,” said Fred, “I only
have one set of teeth.”*
“This is the last time I try to haggle with the natives,”
Bulldog said, his eyes fixed on the nefarious group of leprechauns gathering
next to a massive boulder on top of the cliff.
“Look Fred,” ordered Bulldog, “if you don’t hurry up, you’ll
have to ship me home in an envelope.”
“This is your own fault,” said Fred, “if you had just paid
them for the food, you wouldn’t be in this mess!”*
“Three gold pieces for a strip a tree bark, a few pebbles
and a dandelion? That’s highway robbery!” barked Bulldog in consternation, “that
meal wasn’t worth the single gold piece I offered them! They’re really
overcharging, here.”
“Well, congratulations. You’ll die a richer man” said Fred.*
“Not if you get me outta this!” growled Bulldog.
“Yeah, yeah…” Fred mumbled.* A few seconds later Fred successfully
chewed through the rope, and it snapped from Bulldog’s right wrist. With his hand free, Bulldog quickly untied
the ropes holding his other arm and legs.
Just as he untied his last leg, he looked up to see the boulder plunging
down at them. With seconds left he grabbed Fred and leapt out of way, the
boulder just missing them.
“Thanks Randy,” said Bulldog, “now let’s skedaddle before
they come down here!”
“Great idea,” said Fred, “and don’t forget you owe me lunch
for this!”*
“No problem,” said Bulldog, “what are you in the mood for?”
“You know me…probably just a peanut or two,” said Fred.*
